New York Divorce Lawyer Discusses Owing Back Child Support
Question:
I have a child support order from New York for my ex husband who is the NCP. He has not paid consistently and owes more than $14,000. The child support collection unit has not been able to get money from him as he has hidden it well. He lost his job voluntarily as he got drunk on his job and got fired and claims to be unable to find a job. He owns a house, car etc. and has spent thousands of dollars on high priced lawyers on appealing his custody ruling(which he lost). Unfortunately this generated a huge expense for me and I’m in bad shape. He clearly has the money to do all this. I’m filing for contempt of child support order in court, but don’t know what to expect given how soft the state has been on him so far. What can I do? Shall I ask the judge to force him to get a loan on his house to pay me, sell his car, or arrest him?
