Answer:
As an experienced New York Divorce Attorney I think you should contact the State Bar Association at 1-800-342-3661, The Legal Project at (518) 435-1770, or Legal Aid at (518) 587-5188 —while there is no guarantee, there may be another local program that can assist you.
I also strongly encourage that you consult with an experienced local matrimonial attorney who may be able to guide you in this process.
Without an attorney, many forms are available online. If you were served with a standard Summons and Complaint, your next step is to file an Answer (or Answer + Counterclaim, if you are seeking relief from the court as well). While more information is needed, you may have a basis to request spousal maintenance (aka alimony) and counsel fees in the divorce process. This process can, unfortunately, be expensive and isn’t always “just”, but if you are able to obtain an attorney, be is court-appointed, or if you can retain one, depending on your circumstances that attorney may be able to secure funds for you and achieve a result that is more favorable than if you were to try to handle things on your own.
